Quality and Preference

I am working on what seems like my favourite theme, the issue of quality and its relation to personal preference.
I will post something when it makes sense in my head (maybe never!).

St Giles St Gallery

I visitied the St Giles St Gallery in Norwich yesterday.

They are running a show called Pap Art.

I have a problem interpreting art such as this. I don't have enough knowledge to say whether I think it is any good. Plus there are no reliable critics to point me in any particular direction, I hate thinking for myself!

I found it interesting. Challenging work that I wouldn't have on the wall of my house but better to visit than something which didn't try to say anything.

Tim Marlow on Modern Art Oxford

Did you see Tim Marlow on Five last night with his show about Modern Art Oxford?

Nice to see the workings of the gallery although I would have preferred him to have spent more time on that aspect rather than the exhibitions themselves.

I miss being in Oxford and being able to go to MAO at lunchtime.

Having just moved to York, I just discovered York St Mary's.
A former church now a contemporary art venue.
An oasis of calm in the middle of a busy city.
You should check it out.

Gagosian

I am deeply in love with Jenny Saville.
A gallery that has shown a lot of her work is the Gagosian in New York.

I recently bought a Klimt print online at Easyart. Very satisfactory experience, highly recommended!
